David Bornstein
Managing Principal

Mr. Bornstein oversees all acquisitions, development, property operations, and marketing activities on Highpoint’s apartment portfolio. He has accumulated over 25 years of experience in real estate acquisitions and finance, having previously served as the head of acquisitions for Oculus Development and Plato Foufas & Co.

Prior to Oculus Development and Plato Foufas & Co., Mr. Bornstein was the Chicago-based acquisitions professional for Home Properties, a publicly traded multifamily REIT. Before joining Home Properties, Mr. Bornstein held various positions in real estate banking with CIBC World Markets and Bank of America, as well as served as an adjunct professor at Roosevelt University where he instructed graduate students on real estate valuation and investment analysis. Mr. Bornstein received a Bachelor of Arts degree, a Master of Business Administration (Real Estate) and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Wisconsin.

Gerald Wright
Managing Principal

Mr. Wright serves on the Investment Committee and leads the firm’s Asset Management, Redevelopment, Capital Improvements, Valuations, and Budgeting functions. A seasoned real estate executive with more than three decades of diverse industry experience, he has built a distinguished track record in value creation, operational leadership, and the management of complex, multi-asset portfolios.

to joining the firm, Mr. Wright was Division President at Retail Properties of America, Inc. (RPAI), a publicly traded retail REIT with a net asset value in excess of $6 billion. In that role, he directed leasing, development, forecasting, redevelopment, acquisitions, and dispositions for a 75-property retail portfolio totaling 15 million square feet.

Mr. Wright previously held senior executive positions with DBSI, BPG Property Company, ING Realty Partners, Citigroup, and JMB Realty Advisors. At ING Realty Partners and JMB, he oversaw multifamily portfolios of 5,000 units and 2,500 units, respectively. Across his career, he has successfully leased, repositioned, acquired, and sold hundreds of retail, office, industrial, and multifamily assets. He has also led the development and execution of redevelopment strategies for numerous assets, including three major 100% vacant office campuses: Zurich Towers, the Kemper Insurance Campus, and the Tellabs Corporate Campus. Mr. Wright holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Derek Lodge
Project Manager

Mr. Lodge supports property management, lease-up, operations and marketing activities. He has successfully managed and directed the redevelopment and lease-up of over 6,000 units in the Midwest and Southeast. Originally residing in the United Kingdom, Mr. Lodge has compiled over 30 years of property management experience, originally as a property manager and supervisor with Berkshire Realty (formerly Krupp).

He later worked as Vice President of Property Management for a mid-size regional property management company, during which he headed the management for 11 properties in six states, most of which involved substantial renovation and market repositioning. Mr. Lodge is a graduate of Sheffield University in England with a Bachelor of Laws and has an MBA from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
